Software development is hard but it has always been hard. Agile methodology, the buzzword of today, is not the panacea that will make things easier. It offers distinct advantages, but it is up to the people using it to harness them. As a software developer that has risen through the ranks and as an academic that firmly believes that software development should be grounded on the solid principles of a repeatable process, I will talk my development journey which has included several development methodologies. I will talk about how hanging on to the principles that have stood the test of time has made the transition across the various development methodologies easier!
Deepti is a computer scientist by training. She received her undergraduate degree in Computer Science from India and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from UWM. Prior to returning to the corporate world, she was a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Milwaukee School of Engineering where she served as the Director of Software Engineering program for five years. She currently works at FIS where she leads several development teams for various fraud products.
